Welcome to the learning technologies help site for staff members at AUT. We have put together this knowledge base to share with you on the learning technologies that we support.
We manage the Blackboard system, along with Mahara (ePortfolio) and MyMediaSite/MediaSite (recording and creating multimedia resources for teaching and learning). Blackboard is a learning management system. For academics, it’s a platform where they can share learning resources and communicate with students with their learning progress. For students, they can view all the resources that are shared with them and interact with lecturers using various channels. For faculties and schools, it’s a community area where everyone gets connected.
The following FAQs are the most commonly asked questions. If you are a new staff member, please read the article Where to start with Blackboard? to get you started.

Workshops
We’d like to run workshops where we facilitate discussions and strategies with teaching teams about some of the larger questions for online/blended learning. The intention is to focus on the tools only after we and you clearly understand the purpose and an agreed best approach. We have identified five possible areas of work, but these are not cast in stone and you are welcome to propose your own preferred topic. Our initial topics are –
-
Blackboard basics
-
Engaging students using mobile devices
-
Synchronous and asynchronous teaching
-
Assessment and feedback
-
Supporting students and assisting student success and retention
We want to engage in these workshops with teaching and/or curriculum development teams. Please email learningtechnologies@aut.ac.nz if you are interested in finding out more. We can arrange further follow-up sessions through the year as required.
